The number of times the axe is swung at certain things determines what ending the player receives. For this, the game uses an internal counter that increases for every time the player uses their axe on Specimen 1, Violent Deer, Specimen 2, Specimen 3, Specimen 4 (OG only), Specimen 6, and Specimen 11; hitting the first two awards 1 point, while the rest award 3 points. They must gather more than 20 violence points before the boss fight with Specimen 9.

Endings

In the Good Ending, the Protagonist dies in such a "tragic enough" way that they become a ghost, in turn joining Spooky's army.

In the Bad Ending, the Protagonist becomes a new specimen.

In the Joke/A_Rival Ending for the HD Renovation, the Protagonist escapes the mansion, and tells everyone about its supposedly empty spaces and lack of substance. Nobody believes them, but they live on.

In The Doll House, the Protagonist escapes the mansion after causing it to self-destruct. Depending on what ending they got, they either escape into a doomed world, or bring a peaceful end to the mansion and all of its inhabitants.
